Dreaming forward

Another moment passed, but what did that moment hold? Our lives are filled with these moments, and who can truly know what each one offers us? Within each moment lies an opportunity to do something different from what we've done before. It was in one such moment that I met Michelle, and she said yes to marrying me. In another moment, God impressed upon me that our family wasn't finished growing after our first two daughters, leading us to welcome two more children. There was also the moment when I decided to step down from pastoring after 27 years. I took on a job at ICC, where I eventually worked until my retirement. These moments are significant and often pivotal in shaping our paths forward. Be mindful of the moments you experience in life, and learn to recognize when they carry meaning, as this awareness can help you live more intentionally.

I have missed out on opportune moments and sometimes taken the wrong path, but God has always sent me another chance to make up for what I lost. I believe that God is sending moments to people during this season of life, so it's important to be aware of your surroundings and the people you meet. Often, God uses individuals to guide us, and you never know—you might be just one connection away from your next adventure. Many times, it’s just one person who holds the key to taking your next step.

Life is a mystery; with hindsight, we can easily identify the moments that changed our lives. However, it can be difficult to realize that the mystery of life isn't just about looking back; it's also about dreaming forward. "Dreaming forward" means envisioning the future you want and taking steps to make it a reality. Embrace the present moment with hope, knowing it can lead to new possibilities and dreams coming true.

Life is about maintaining a healthy balance of looking back, living in the now, and dreaming forward. Recognizing this balance can inspire a sense of harmony and purpose in your life, helping you appreciate each aspect of living as part of a whole.

The writer of the song says,
"We have this moment to hold in our hands
And to touch as it slips
Through our fingers, like sand
Yesterday's gone
And tomorrow may never come
But we have this moment today."

I am filled with gratitude for the moments I spent with my parents and the love and wisdom they shared with me. I was present for both of their transitions to heaven's peaceful shores—a moment I will always cherish. I am also grateful for the time I spent raising my children, who are now grown adults. I was there to greet them when they entered this world, a moment that changed my life forever.

My mind is flooded with memories of past moments, the ones I am living now, and those yet to come. Each one is a gift and an opportunity to learn and grow. To deepen your spiritual reflection, practice mindfulness by pausing during your day to truly observe and appreciate each moment, recognizing its significance in your personal growth and spiritual journey.
